paranerdia said: Yeah, not in the UK at that point. Though I believe (not 100% certain) you can still be executed for high treason. Murdering a member of the royal family would do it.

Of course you can still be executed— (wait a second are you telling me the UK…

Um, sorry, but the UK doesn’t have the death penalty for ANYTHING, including high treason. Most you’ll get here is life in prison (which probably is more likely to be around 25 years.) Our justice system is shocking.

Does anyone have a digital copy of Green Witchcraft I, Ann Moura’s first book about Folk Magic? If someone could share I would be very appreciative.

Also any book on or containing info on the witch’s runes :)

I have a hard copy and it’s not really folk magic, that book’s more about her particular take on neo-wicca. Even her book “Green Magic” is less folklore, more (magical) herb-lore.

If you’re after folk magic, could I suggest Doreen Valiente’s “Natural Magic”? That’s a lot more folk-y than Ann Moura’s stuff.

Can I just?

Believing/practicing magic does not mean that science and common sense are no longer valid.

Thanks.

Personal Sacred/Religious/Otherwise Useful Calendars

WIP post about me constructing my calendar, what I’m including on it and why, ditto anything I’m not particularly fussed about.

Starting Point:

Anyone who’s been following me over the past few months has probably realised that the sabbats of the Wheel of the Year are very important to me. They’re also relevant, since I’m in England and I have lived in the country and been able to observe the agricultural cycles in a way you just can’t do in the city. They’re pretty close to the Wheel. The solar sabbats (the solstices and equinoxes, for those who don’t know) are also important to me because… Well, without being able to define my Gods I can’t really explain it very well. But they are. The Wheel as a whole is important to me, and it’s the basis of my Sacred Calendar.

Working from that, I worship a lunar goddess - currently I call Her either simply “Lady” or “Goddess”, or “Silver Lady” if the mood takes me or I need to be more specific. I have no idea if She’s the same Goddess the Wica worship - and I’m never likely to find out, so Silver Lady is fine for us just now. Because of Her, and the way that the astrological bodies feature in my more ritualistic magic, I include the lunar phases on my calendar.

Making it Personal

I have added feasts of Bast - currently just the ones on Her Wepwawet Wiki page, using their estimated dates until the KO calendar for those months comes out.

The 8th of October is also an important day for Bast and I - it was the day I built Her a shrine for the first time. So that’s a marked date on my Sacred Calendar - the Day of the Lady of the Shrine. Bit of a crap name at the moment. Kemetic language is on my list of things to study, ok?

There are three dates on my calendar at the moment that are highly personal to me. Two are for ancestor veneration: the dates of my maternal grandmother’s birth and death. The date of her death is my Day of Mourning. Because the whole damn family gets depressed as hell on that date, and I am NO exception. So that date is set aside to remember, and admit I still miss her, and mourn her and the rest of my deceased family. The date of her birth is the Day of Ancestor Celebration. A time to remember and celebrate where I’m from, who made me, and who brought me up to be the person I am. Less crying and more laughing on this date. Samhain remains a time to remember all those who have passed - including non-relations and pets.

Speaking of pets, that brings me to my third highly personal date. Since I can’t remember when she was born, I hold the date my first cat died as a sacred day; one to remember her spirit, as well as those of all my other pets who have passed on. It’s a day to specifically focus on the animals and their spirits who have joined me on my path. They were all a huge part of my life - none more so than Red - and I feel I need to honour them, and show them I still miss them all and - especially with Red - really wish they were still around.

There are some more dates I’m contemplating adding - the date of the first entry in my BOS, for example. Also, the dates I build shrines to each God - because by that point, They mean quite a lot to me.

Fleshing It Out

My calendar still looks pretty sparse. So far my busiest month is December - the moons, Yule, and two feasts of Bast. Three ritual observances, and two I should really mark in more ways than just “Oh, is it [x moon phase] tonight? Do I have magic to do? No? Ahh well, isn’t it pretty.” But, in a flash of inspiration worthy of…. an inspired person, it occurred to me that a calendar doesn’t need to just mark ritual observances and personal sacred days. Astrological tides, reminders for spell renewals, events and holidays of interest - I need to adapt the calendar every year anyway for the moon phases, sabbats and equinoxes, so why not add all of those too? Even dates that are important to me personally but have no bearing on my practice.

So yeah. That’s my calendar; a combination of observances, tides, important dates and just things I want to remember.

*Hopes you’re being sarcastic because I’m not Wiccan and don’t follow or believe in that rule.*

Maybe he was being sarcastic, if not FUCK YOU dude. Take your fucking 3-fold rule and shove it!

First of all, *your. (Or do not all Pagans believe in proper grammar?)

Second: Whoa. Eeeasy there, sparky. I WAS being sarcastic. But if you’re really that desperate for a throat to jump down…

Thanks for the correction. Sometimes I don’t pay attention to my “your you’re.”
Glad you were being sarcastic. I do jump down throats because some of us get a lot of 3-Fold Law messages. It’s not all that funny.

*throws a party for the wonders of sarcasm and relief at not actually having a crazy person following me*

Party ring, anyone? Jammie Dodger? Free cat?

Warning: If you want the cat, she thinks duvets are an extension of her litter tray.

Hmmm…. Having just been guilt tripped by my mother, I’m not gonna curse her new boyfriend any more. Probably best, since I couldn’t work out a way to hit him without affecting her.

Instead, I am plotting some spells against the gossipmongering that’s currently floating around, as well as protection spells for my sun and stars and I to keep us the heck out of it. You’d think living 200 miles away from the rest of them would help, but no. It just means I don’t hear about it when they’re making shit up that I’ve apparently said and claiming I back their side.

I quote Treebeard:
“Side? I am on nobody’s side, because nobody is on my side, little orc.”

Productive day :)

Got my new pendulum cleansed.

Researched and wrote up the properties of a couple of new crystals

Sorted the damn “temple” room, decided it’s still way too fucking small and when we buy a damn house, I am having a proper-sized dedicated Temple room again because I miss it. A lot. Followed this with grumbling about having to have a guest room for people who never come and visit.

Bought flea stuff, plotted with my sun and stars how to apply it since Rogue’s still not letting us touch her. (it involves OH hanging off the edge of the sofa, me distracting her, and ninja-like application of the spot on treatment.)

Cleaned up liquid cat poop. Gagged. Swore loudly about the damn cat that does that literally a foot away from her litter tray. Resolved to move the washing airer upstairs so she can’t hide under it to do that again.

Still trying to figure out how to fit four shrines into that tiny space with no spare suitable furniture.

Built the Beltane altar, just needs some final touches and I’ll post pics. (Yes, I’m horribly late. Leave me be.)

Now to figure out exactly how behind I am with PBP, send my CV off for that insurance job in York, and start counting down til the end of my current contract. (3 weeks and a day to goooo!)

soloontherocks:

the fact remains

if you go into a religion that states as religious fact that their specific religion’s deities are not man-made, and you try to tell them that that religion’s deities in that religion’s context are man-made

you are a dick

and you make it really hard for me to give a shit when you complain about people going into your religion and telling you where your deities came from

don’t fucking do it to other people while complaining about it being done to you. If it’s inappropriate behavior, it’s inappropriate for everyone, yourself included.

Heyhey, guess what? I learnt the lesson, Bast’s back. I kinda wanna throw a party. Work is still getting me down a lot though, so no long posts today. Will try for one tomorrow but no promises… I mean ffs, I’ve not even built the Beltane altar and that’s been and gone and I’ve been being attacked by blossom from every tree I walk under.

These last couple of months, I’ve sucked.

But hey, you know what? That’s absolutely fine. We’re all allowed down time. We’re all allowed time to wallow in self-pity as we struggle to be civil to colleagues who are driving us completely batshit crazy. We’re all allowed times where we can hardly drag ourselves out of bed and have no energy left at the end of the day for ourselves, let alone the Gods.
